What does it mean to you to go “beyond?”
The word beyond, for me, paints a picture of moving past where I can see — something beyond the horizon.
A Beyond Parable
A few years ago, I had an experience that made me feel like I was moving beyond — I learned how to sail.
It’s a bit funny to think of learning a new skill at 37 years old, but I was thrilled when my wife offered me a “Learn How to Sail” Groupon for Christmas of 2020. It seemed like just the right way to move past a challenging year, learn a new hobby, and explore something with a fresh spirit of adventure.
Being a visionary, the promise of a new hobby and a potential season of adventure filled me with energy and excitement.
Even though I did not yet know how to sail, I began planning my first international trips. I could envision myself sailing around the horn of Africa, the Mediterranean Sea, and from Long Beach to Catalina Island.
