The gifts of the Spirit are for every Christian. We learn in 1 Corinthians 14:26 that “whenever” we come together we should expect God to minister through spiritual gifts and that they “all” should be expressed for the “strengthening of the church.”
Beyond the ministry of every one of us, God also gives gifts for equipping the church. Ministry equipping gifts, doctrinally referred to as gifts of Christ are given so that the entire Body of Christ will be built up.
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. - Ephesians 4:11-13
