In 2009, the Barna Group, an organization that studies sociological trends, performed a study on spiritual gifts. The results could have been more encouraging.
15% of Christians did not know their gift
28% of Christians said they did not have a spiritual gift
20% claimed (strangely) the spiritual gifts are not Biblica.
A quote from the Barna study can be found below:
“Between those who do not know their gift (15%), those who say they don’t have one (28%) and those who claimed gifts that are not biblical (20%), nearly two-thirds of the self-identified Christian population who claim to have heard about spiritual gifts have not been able to accurately apply whatever they have heard or what the Bible teaches on the subject to their lives.”
This study is very sobering in light of Paul’s opening statement about spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12.
