A helpful book to many business leaders and communicators is “Start with Why.” Ever heard the phrase? It means that when you start communicating about a topic, you should begin with an explanation of why that topic is important. People tend to listen more when you start with why.
As we begin our deep-dive into all of the spiritual gifts, let’s start with why. Why does God give us spiritual gifts? Three potential reasons are listed below.
The gifts strengthen the church
The gifts transform our world
The gifts give glory to God
Paul tells the church in Corinth, “to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” (1 Cor 12:7 NIV) The gifts are meant for the common good of those in our world, both in the church and outside of the church.
Spiritual gifts strengthen the church. When the gifts are used within the church, we are able to strengthen, encourage, and build up one another. This creates strong, healthy communities that are self healing and self sustaining.
