Over the last month or two, there has been more talk in America about revival than in the last 30 years. Demographic studies by Barna and others now highlight a new spiritual openness in our nation. It seems like the trials of 2020 and beyond are starting to produce a hunger for true spirituality.
There is certainly a new hunger and thirst for God. Most Christian leaders only seem to have felt the need to comment on movements of the Holy Spirit at universities such as Asbury. Some have risen up to criticize (a common feature of revival). Adding to the confusion of social media are the many different terms used to describe new spiritual interest in a community. Words used by pastors and theologians include revival, renewal, outpouring, awakening, reformation, and renaissance.
