After the wilderness, it was time for Israel to enter the Promised Land. The generation that had left Egypt had all but died off. Joshua was the new leader.
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.”

I can imagine the rejoicing, the anticipation, and the wonder that every age of Israelite had when they were given permission to walk into the Promised Land. It had been 40 years, and all they had ever known was wilderness. It was time to have a big party and pass out the milk and honey.
