Our identity is the sum of our experiences but is also independent of those. It’s something inherent, innate, and inward. In a way, knowing our inner identity allows us to interpret the world outside.

As I reflected on in my journal two years ago, building an identity is a life’s work. As I began to ponder the way in which we build our identity I was drawn to the concept of a house. The different layers of our own identity can be correlated to the layers of a home, inside, outside, and below.
